Empowering Seniors with Every Step

Climate & Home Support Services
Helping seniors and disabled veterans stay safe, comfortable, and independent at home.
At Bright Leaf, we focus on the everyday fixes and supports that make a home feel secure. Colorado weather can be unpredictable, and many older adults live with limited resources or unsafe conditions. Our team steps in with simple, practical help that makes a real difference — from cooling support in the summer to warmth and safety in the winter.
These services are free for low‑income seniors, disabled veterans, and grandfamilies who need a hand. Reach out today so that our licensed professionals can help you stay supported.
Why This Work Matters
Extreme heat is becoming one of the biggest safety risks for older adults and people with health conditions. Seniors are far more vulnerable to heat‑related illness because their bodies don’t cool as efficiently, many live on fixed incomes, and a large number live in older homes that trap heat.
-
More than 80% of heat‑related deaths in the U.S. happen to people over 60.
-
Indoor temperatures can climb 20–30 degrees higher in older, poorly insulated homes — even when it doesn’t feel “dangerous” outside.
-
Seniors with heart, lung, or mobility issues are at the highest risk, and many cannot safely install or afford cooling equipment.
-
Disabled adults are twice as likely to experience dangerous indoor heat because of medical conditions, limited mobility, or lack of support.
-
In Colorado, heat waves are becoming longer and more frequent, and many low‑income seniors live in homes with no AC at all.
For the people we serve, heat isn’t just uncomfortable — it can be life‑threatening. A simple fan, a portable AC unit, or a quick safety check can be the difference between a safe summer and a medical emergency.
That’s why we show up. That’s why this work matters.

Portable AC distribution
We deliver and install portable AC units for low‑income seniors and disabled veterans facing dangerous indoor heat. This quick, direct support helps prevent heat‑related illness and keeps vulnerable neighbors safe and stable during extreme temperatures.

weatherization‑adjacent repairs
We help seniors and disabled veterans stay safe and warm by sealing drafts, improving insulation around doors and windows, and completing small repairs that prevent heat loss. These simple fixes lower energy strain, reduce heating costs, and keep homes comfortable through Colorado’s coldest months.

heat‑safety checks
We visit seniors and disabled veterans to assess indoor temperatures, check airflow, look for unsafe conditions, and make sure cooling equipment is working properly. These quick checks help prevent heat‑related emergencies and ensure every home is safe during extreme temperatures.
How It Works
Simple, free support for seniors, disabled veterans, and grandfamilies.
We keep our process easy on purpose. When someone reaches out for help, we want them to feel supported — not overwhelmed with paperwork or hoops to jump through. Here’s how our services work from start to finish.
1. Reach Out
A senior, family member, neighbor, or caseworker contacts us through our website, phone, or referral partners. No long forms. No complicated steps. Just a simple request for help.
2. Quick Follow‑Up
Our team reaches out to learn what’s going on — whether it’s extreme heat, a cold home, a safety concern, or a small repair that’s making daily life harder. We keep it friendly and judgment‑free.
3. Schedule a Visit
We set up a time to stop by. Most visits are quick and focused on comfort, safety, and stability. We work around the resident’s schedule and mobility needs.
4. Support on the Spot
During the visit, we provide the help needed — portable AC units, heat safety checks, winterization, or small home repairs. When possible, we install equipment and complete fixes right away.
5. No Cost, No Catch
All services are free for qualifying seniors, disabled veterans, and grandfamilies. We never charge, upsell, or ask for anything in return.
6. Follow‑Up When Needed
If a home needs additional support, we stay connected. Our goal is long‑term comfort and safety, not one‑time fixes.
Why We Keep It Simple
Many of the people we serve are living alone, on fixed incomes, or dealing with health challenges. Complicated systems leave them behind. A straightforward process ensures they get the help they need — quickly, respectfully, and with dignity.
Impact in 2025
Neighbors we supported this year
In 2025, Bright Leaf helped 598 seniors and their families stay safe, comfortable, and stable in their homes. Every number represents a real neighbor who received support when they needed it most.
-
Portable AC units delivered: 172
-
Heat safety checks completed: 89
-
Winterization visits: 74
-
Home safety & comfort repairs: 71
-
Total seniors and families supported: 598
A large portion of the AC units we delivered went to older mobile homes, where outdated or failing equipment made indoor temperatures dangerously high. Many of these homes had no working cooling system at all, making portable AC units essential for safety.
Because of what we’ve seen in the field, providing cooling support has become a standard part of every project we do. Whether we’re repairing a step, sealing a draft, or checking on a senior living alone, we make sure each home is safe from extreme heat as well as other hazards.
These numbers reflect the heart of our mission — showing up for older adults, disabled veterans, and grandfamilies who would otherwise face these challenges alone.
